Early Season Sunshine Sees Suttonians Yet To Fire
A balmy September day greeted Suttonians in their first official match in the Leinster Senior 1A League, when the away trip to Boyne RFC saw the visitors meet an opposition less welcoming than the conditions. And while the heroics of the win over last season’s league winners Bective, seemed a distance away, there was enough evidence to suggest this side has plenty to offer.
In keeping with first fixture fare, Suttonians was a little short on experience and with some players rested and others out of position, a resolute Boyne stole an early march and had bagged 3 tries to one by the interval.
Despite their tentative first half, the visitors fought a rearguard action in the second, scoring three tries before eventually going down 43-22 – but securing the all important 4 try bonus point. Next Saturday sees Suttonians play host to Kilkenny RFC when the home support will be hoping that the early season blues will have been well kicked to touch.
