Entertainment Real Winner In Suttonians Tilt For Met Cup Honors
Suttonians Play Keep-Ball As A Eager Barnhall Look On
Well, it was nothing if not entertaining. Having beaten the visitors at the same stage (quarter-final) of the Metropolitan Cup last season, NUIM Barnhall were on the right side of a 41-44 scoreline in Sutton last Sunday.
With 85 points shared obviously the match swung one way and then the other on countless occasions, the home side racking up 7 tries in total including one on his first start at this level for the impressive Ryan Bolger at hooker. He was joined on the scoresheet by Brian Digan, Shane Patterson, Tadgh Cleary, Jack Ussher, Darragh Henry and Darragh Kelly, the latter having been in very impressive form since Christmas.
With the scores tied at 41 all and seemingly headed for extra-time time, Barnhall kicked a late penalty to seal the victory. It was heart-breaking for the Sutton team coming on the back of a similarly high-scoring close result when going down 39-32 the previous week to Bective in Donnybrook.
Attention now returns to the league and the last home game of the season vs. Gorey this Saturday, 2nds kicking off at 1.30 followed by the 1sts at 3 before the last match of the season away to Monkstown on the 11th.
In what promises to be a busy day in Sutton this Saturday the women also return to All Ireland action after a couple of weeks’ break when they host Wicklow at 5pm so 3 games to look forward to on the day for the diehard fan, all welcome.
