Howth To The Fore In War On Litter

The passing of a new EU directive on cigarette waste which forces cigarette manufacturers to pay for the removal of cigarette litter came into effect yesterday. This will see cigarette companies levied for the removal of cigarette butts, which as a plastic waste now account for 50% of all litter according to the National Litter Pollution Monitoring Agency.

Voicing his approval, PickerPals’ Patrick Jackson welcomed the move, while a chorus of approval from Howth was captured in this RTE report by Eleanor Burnhill.
