Lady Luck Deserts Suttonians in Penultimate Home Game of Season

On a blustery day Suttonians welcomed Gorey RFC to the McDowell Memorial Grounds for the penultimate home match of the season. More than an appetizer to Ireland’s match in Paris, a good crowd lent their ample voice to the on field endeavours and the home side chose to play with the wind in the first half. In a game that was always going to be ruled by the elements, the home side were first to touch the white wash but a number of Gorey scores, including a fortunate intercept try saw the home team trailing 5-17 at the turn.

From there, playing into the wind, it was always going to be an uphill struggle but Suttonians drew first blood after the break with a well taken try on 47 minutes, before Gorey struck twice to extend their lead.

Despite the conditions, a rear guard action resulted in a second try for the home side, leaving Gorey to take the spoils, but Suttonians with their pride in tact. Conor Kelly, Darragh Kelly and Rory Litchfield stood out for the home side and Suttonians now sit mid table in the Leinster 1A Division. Final Score: Suttonians  15 – 27 Gorey.
