Missed Opportunities down the Brave Suttonians
A balmy Saturday and a 3pm kickoff provided the perfect backdrop for a full house at the McDowell Memorial Ground, as Suttonians played host to Monkstown. The home side played with a strong wind from the offset, but failure to fully capitalise on the conditions made for a nervous home support.
Suttonians did hit the white wash once in the first forty, but when the second try was disallowed for a suspected double movement, facing into the wind was always going to be a challenge – and so it proved to be.
Despite the visitors being reduced to 13 men early in the second half, the home side failed to take advantage, with Monkstown scoring 3 points during the 10 minutes. With the wind at their back the Monkstown pack started to get on top and kept the scoreboard ticking over by turning pressure into points.
A fortuitous enough try at the death and a 26-10 scoreline flattered the visitors and the Suttonians fifteen will no doubt feel aggrieved, which, rest assured, will be channeled into the next fixture against Gorey on November 27.
