Now That The Brawl Is Over…..What Next?
Bottles and punches were thrown at Burrow Beach in Sutton on Sunday evening
Sunday’s mass brawl on Burrow Beach was an ugly reminder that climate change has collateral consequences for the Sutton and Howth area and particularly for all living along Burrow Road. Fortunately no serious injury was reported, but enjoyment for the vast majority of people, young and old, families and grannies, was abruptly halted when a booze infused haze took over the younger revellers.
What was particularly shocking was the manner in which the melee spread as youths, who had little involvement in initial exchanges were seen running from a distance to join the rumpus. And thanks to the Gardai from Raheny, order was restored.
Gardai in Raheny are now appealing to any person who may have information in relation to this incident to contact them on 01-6664300, or the Garda Confidential Line 1800-666 111.
However, this is not an isolated incident as recent summers have seen, sun, sand and sea provide the perfect conditions for violence on Burrow Beach and a larger Garda presence at peak use times is now required in the area to arrest this annual thuggery.
Other measures that must now be considered by local representatives, the Gardai and Fingal include:
Better traffic management and the re-introduction of a one-way traffic flow on Burrow Road;
No Booze on the beach – as current law prescribes;
Bins – more of them please so litter bugs have no excuse in leaving the area in its current state.
