Onshore And Off – David O’Shea Crowned Afloat Magazine’s Sailor Of The Month

Captain Fantastic Dave O’Shea Negotiating The Fleet’s Progress
Class Captain of the Howth 17 fleet needs ample shoulders in normal times and in this, it’s 125th anniversary, the challenge has been even greater. So, it is testament to David O’Shea, Howth 17 Class Captain 2023, that he has been feted with the accolade of Sailor of the Month by Afloat magazine,
O’Shea’s stewardship of the Class has drawn on a groundswell of support from skippers and sailors alike, but what marks out his tenure is his expertise on land and getting the fleet safe and sound to West Cork for their anniversary visit and even better, getting them back home.
This required considerable navigation and negotiation skills, with key local establishments such as Baltimore Sailing Club, Cape Clear Distillery, and O’Sullivan’s of Crookhaven each providing their own unique challenge.
Suffice to say, David O’Shea’s ability on land is surpassed only by his seafaring skills off it and JustLocal doffs the hat to a master mariner, who has stayed the course and kept this fleet safe, both on and off shore.
