Sail Training Ireland Plots Course With Vital Funding
Jacqui McCrum, the Department of Defence with Daragh Sheridan, Chief Executive of the Sail Training Ireland
After deliberations and consideration, we can report Sail Training Ireland is fully now afloat to continue its vital work and the approval of funding by The Department of Defence to the tune of €150,000 is welcome news for this wonderful initiative.
This approval will provide funding for the next three years of €100,000 per year which is on top of the funding announced for 2023 of €50,000 from the Dormant Accounts Funding. It follows on the successful delivery of sail training opportunities under the previous two year agreement.
This funding will enable the charity to provide this often life changing opportunity to more young people who otherwise would not have had the chance.
Speaking at the announcement Daragh Sheridan, Chief Executive of Sail Training Ireland said“we would like to thank the Minister for Defence, Micheal Martin, his predecessor Simon Coveney and Taoiseach Leo Varadkar for their support. In particular we would like to thank Secretary General Jacqui McCrum and her wonderful team in the Department of Defence who are a pleasure to work with.” And so say all of us!
