Howth Middle Pier Takes Off Without The Bubbly!

Howth’s new middle pier opened last week without even a glass of bubbly or a red ribbon ceremony. Maybe this is fitting given that it has been developed as a working pier, which will provide a base for local trawlers and those from further afield to dock and carry out routine maintenance, while a scenic walkway provides visitors with a new vista and views out towards Ireland’s eye and back towards Howth head.

This new pier is a wonderful addition to Howth’s fishing facilities and is already used by trawlers which traditionally would have landed their catch in the UK and which now, due to Brexit, is no longer an option. Not only does the new facility enhance Howth’s maritime reputation, but it is also expected to create business for local traders and provide more general activity and colour to the wider Howth area.
