Baldoyle’s very own boxing legend Christy Dunne was bowled over after receiving an award from Fingal County Council for his outstanding community service. Held each year to honour community champs, this year’s Fingal Community Awards saw 24 individuals receive special recognition awards from Mayor of Fingal, Cllr. Howard Mahony “for the dedication and selfless acts they have undertaken to help improve the every lives of people in Fingal”.
Held in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Blanchardstown , the glitzy event was chaired by a hale and hearty Marty Morrissey, who outlined the serious business to hand and the importance of recognising the significant contribution made by countless individuals across the County who have played a key role supporting those in need and helping others.
And no one more deserving is Christy Dunne, who for 20 years has played a significant community role as head coach in Baldoyle boxing club. Christy looks after over 90 kids weekly in the boxing club and impacts the lives of these kids in many different ways. The Fingal citation went on, “as a boxing coach Christy has impacted the lives of 1000s of kids from all different backgrounds; a lot dealing with their own issues outside the club. He has done all this on a purely voluntary basis, often with personal sacrifice.”
