Smiles All Round As Suttonians Down Table Topper
Eimar Litchfield of Suttonians in the Safe Embrace of Liam, left and Rory right after a great win over Bective Rangers
In a fitting finale to to the last home match of the season, Suttonians saw off Bective Rangers, 24-17 to retain their mid-table position in the Leinster Division 1A League. It was also a fitting tribute and send off to two Suttonians stalwarts, Jamie Reilly (second row) and Gar Connolly (prop) both whom have performed in the trenches for the Sutton side with distinction for many seasons. In a match that was always going to be ruled by the conditions the home side opened their account with a try and conversion before Bective responded with two tries and a penalty and which saw the home side go in at the interval 17-7 down.
But an try and convert early in the second half saw the home team give the faithful hope and a further try and convert saw them open a 7 point margin and bravely holding out for a famous 24-17 win.
For Bective, a losing bonus point was sufficient for them to progress into the round robin stage and for a possible return to the AIL. But on a day when the visitors may have travelled with loftier ambitions, Suttonians proved their mettle against a well drilled opposition to record an excellent victory.
