Two-Leg Trip To Town Is A Significant Backward Step For DART Commuters

A public consultation on proposed changes to Dart Services is taking place as part of the plans to extend the Dart to Drogheda. JustLocal understands that one of the major changes being proposed is the introduction of a shuttle service between Howth and Howth Junction, eliminating the direct connection to the city for all stations beyond Howth Junction and including Bayside, Sutton and Howth.

According to Irish Rail this will result in an increase from the current frequency of 9 trains in a 3-hour AM peak period serving Howth, Sutton and Bayside to a future frequency of 18 trains in the morning peak. This will allow for a service every 10 minutes in both directions.

This is currently part of a consultation process and the deadline for submissions in the first round of consultation is Friday 8th April 2022. Submissions can be made here: https://www.dartplus.ie/…/publ…/how-to-engage-contact-us

Irish Rail have also placed The DART+ Coastal North project team at the disposal of concerned commuters to answer questions and who can be contacted at 01 233 4515 or DARTCoastalNorth@irishrail.ie.

JustLocal sees this more as a fait accompli and the consultation process has all the hallmarks of a process to ease users to a new reality and a serious relegation in the quality of DART services for the area. Will keep you posted @JustLocal
